Yes We Can

Barack Obama’s campaign was about ‘Change-yes we can’. This blog is not about Obama or anything, but how the world sees change. Are we in a position where we can say ‘Yes we can accept change easily’?

This is a story about an average engineering student. About a person who hardly has done anything significant in the class for the first two years of college. One of those guys who come to college, sit through the class, sets for home. After two years, he decides this is not the way to go about things. More activeness in class is essential. He has no intention of being famous or something, but only the desire to enjoy the second half of college life more.

For this, he tries to impart a bit of humor in his daily activities. He tries to be friendly with everyone in class. Stays back in college till late involving himself in some activity or another. So far so good, but let’s see how his classmates interpret his changed behavior.

We say change is inevitable, change is the only constant in life and things like that. Let’s see how well we accept this change ourselves. Coming back to the guy in the story, everyone now tells him “Tu bahut badal gaya hai yaar” constantly. His actions are suddenly seen in a different way. Even if he makes a simple joke or a prank in front of a girl, he’s labeled a tag that of a ‘flirt’. Big time flirts in the class do lot crazier activities than this, but nothing will be talked about them. We think that is anyway expected from regular flirts. This is something new to talk about.

Now, for this changed guy’s increased cheerfulness in class, another theory is put forward. He’s so happy and merry. He must be in love with someone. This has changed him maybe. This is what love can do. Crazy little thing called love, isn’t it? I believe this logic is crap. People who put forward this theory also do know that. But everything is fine if it adds up to form ‘masala’, right na?

Why does every action this poor guy does be accounted only as one which he’s doing to gain popularity or fame. Can’t anything be done purely for the sake of pure joy or unselfish happiness? About some things done with no real plan or motive in mind. But naah, you are the ‘Changed guy’ and new bakra, and everything you do can be twisted and told in a manner which raises a few eyebrows. Some people know exactly what I mean here.

Moral, once you’ve formed an image of a studious person or of that of a cool dude, society paints a picture of you that way in their minds. Anything that changes in the picture is suspicious. That adds to creative rumors and crazy stories about the person. Like if the cool dude suddenly starting to study all day long or the nerd playing football all day long, people will not accept that too easily. 'Kuch toh jaroor hua hai'.

The one thing that this guy now needs to do is to believe in himself. Believe that he has changed for the better; ignore what the world says for a while. Give time to people for digesting the change. Eventually all the pieces will fall into the right place. It’s just a matter of time. Matter of time before we are ready to say ‘Yes we can’ to accept the change rightly.

awwww . You should introduce us to this guy. And i never said that the guy being referred to is in love etal. Guess guilty conscience has played its part here too :)

Pratap contradicting himself. You say i should introduce you to this guy. Then you write, you never said that guy being referred to is in love. One statement says you know the guy, other says you don't.

Mr. GODbole...good post re...i completely agree with u...changes, transitions r a part of life...they r bound 2 come...an old classical saying-"PARIVARTAN SANSAAR KA NIYAM HAI"..n there r no specific reasons 4 it like "love" or things like dis..yes it may b one of d reasons, but not d only 1..after all, at one point of time evry individual thinks about wat he has done til den n how he should go about things in future...n in fact dis d rite way 2 go abt things...so well written..
i hope d person u referred 2 in d blog reads it...n just 2 add some MASALA, not a bad idea of u introducin dat person 2 us as pratap said....cheerz!

sanket, since you are referring to yourself in third person, hence i used your terminology sar. ask yourself. I keep saying you have changed, i dont deny it, but i never said if the change was bad or good! change is good, it is just a little unexpected and catches us off guard. :) And i never pointed fingers and said that you are in love or anything of that sort. I just keep saying you hacve changed, nothing more ! And you have and for the record it is good, just unexpected, hence all the leg pulling

and i never called you a "flirt". Either someone else has used these words or you are guilty about it :P

ah!..yet another post triggering a tickle;)...yes this is what our new little 'changed guy' is producing nowadays..note though in a good sense.
No point now i guess refering to a third person now that its disclosed who we're talking about so well..
Should say i do agree a bit with kauli boy..(bloody surprising ha??:O..i know but just for once, because there's no possible 2nd option).. But yes the change is for the good..considering you haven't lost your old attributes but just added a few flavours to it..so said that we are enjoying this whole new you:D..
And well as the flirt term goes..i raise my hand for i coined that for you..lol but i'm sure you'll get used to that by the time we get used to this 'cool new dude in the block!!\m/'..
cheers..

@Pratap...
This post is not completely about me. Yes i agree some of the things can really be associated with me. But it's better read as a third person. Better read without characters. Just wanted to say change is not accepted easily always. That's it. If you felt like i've pointed fingers at you ppl indirectly, that's not true.

@Omi, Yugandhar...thanks n agree wid you!

@Gaurav...I am not trying to produce debatable topics. That's not me. I'm writing this because maybe 10 yrs down the line, these posts will remind me what my college life was. The l-clan, the Fridays and changed life.Good that you've found the change positive!

@Aman...You sat for all the lectures...Looks like we both have changed a lot from school days!

I completely agree upon your view that change is not easily accepted by us. I agree with others also when they say you've changed. Good blog! And quite a good comments debate i must say.

change is constant, cant help it.just look out that it is for the better.and if u think u r right and convinced abt it ,why care abt the world ?

nicely put,gud read.

hi sanket.
if the person mentioned has changed 4 good and for his sake.then he has won the battle half way.improvisation is always good.infact i have been thru this a lot many times-when i say or do some thing i am not 'expected' to say or do.its okay.they come along in the end.:P

@Pratap...Got you sir..

@Neha...Thanks.

@Poisonivy..Thanks, and this is why i choose to write about a general person not anyone in particular.

@Anand..Thanks and point noted.

@Pratiksha...Hoping as you said that all the changes come along good in the end.
